Discover the key features of the dreamGEAR Lava Glow wireless PS3 controller. This guide explains its red glow design, wireless convenience, and trade-offs for PS3 gamers.
Quick answer
The dreamGEAR Lava Glow wireless PS3 controller offers a distinctive red glow design and wireless convenience, making it a solid budget-friendly choice for PS3 gamers who want a unique look without breaking the bank.
Why consider the Lava Glow design?
The red glow effect is the standout feature of this controller. It adds a visual flair that standard black controllers lack, which can be appealing for themed setups or late-night gaming sessions. However, the glow is not adjustable and may not suit every taste.
Wireless freedom vs. potential lag
As a wireless controller, it removes the cable clutter of a standard PS3 controller, giving you more freedom to sit back from the screen. The trade-off is that wireless controllers can introduce input lag or connectivity issues, especially if the battery is low or the signal is obstructed. For casual gaming, this is rarely a problem.
Decision rules
- Buy if you want a unique red glow controller: The Lava Glow is one of the few PS3 controllers with a built-in red light effect. If you want your setup to stand out, this is a clear choice.
- Buy if you need a budget-friendly wireless option: With a catalog price of USD 38.30 (compared to USD 53.95 new), this refurbished controller offers wireless play at a lower cost.
- Skip if you require a brand-new controller with full warranty: Pre-owned/refurbished items come with limited warranty and may have been used. If you prefer a pristine, factory-sealed controller, look for a new model.
